Emergency Situation

It is now the case that Britain has sadly become a totally irresponsible nation as far as animal welfare is concerned but in particular in it’s treatment of dogs and the breeds who are particularly suffering at present include Staffordshire Bull Terriers at the top closely followed by Border Colliers and small terriers and Lurchers. EVERY large organisation in the country is now having to take the very difficult decision to put down ANY dog who is unlikely to be re-homed in the near future be re-homed in the near future and in the case of Staffies they are having to perform regular culls in the kennels when the dogs have been there for a few weeks because there is just not the space to keep them. I would urge everyone, then to think very carefully about their own actions:

  1. Do you have the time, space and commitment for a dog for at the least the next ten years? This means even if your ‘circumstances change!’
  2. Do you need to buy a puppy? If the answer is yes bear in mind that ‘you get what you pay for’. If you go to a back street where the dog is clearly used a ‘money spinner,’ not only are you fuelling appalling welfare issues but you do not know what sort of dog you will get and this can cause immeasurable problems. Go to a registered breeder where the dog’s parentage is known and preferably seen and where you can get advice and support.
  3. Could you rescue one of the many lovely dogs in rescue who are already here and need a home (EVERY dog deserves a good home.) Please consider the older, less attractive individuals and especially if they are among one of the most needy breeds.
  4. eeds.

My last plea would be that if you are in ANY doubt whatsoever that you may not be suitable for a dog or that this is not the right time then DO NOT get one.

The Alternative
Animal Sanctuary

Now has dogs desperately in need of good, responsible homes. They have come from ‘Death Rows’ across the country and need a chance. Often they are Staffordshire Bull Terriers or the more ‘common’ breeds so please don’t expect to find exotic breeds or those with waiting lists because they are lucky enough not to be thrown out. If you can confidently answer the above questions then contact The Sanctuary on 07818406619 or go to a sanctuary near where you live and help put this crisis right before more dogs die unnecessarily.

This is now the Hidden Evil in Britain today.
