The Aviary

The aviary is a lovely space for introducing new pigeons

The aviary was built in 2012 so that I could take in injured birds and keep them safe until they could be released or they could stay for life if that was not possible. The sanctuary is home to over two hundred pigeons, some are feral and have been injured or are unwanted in the place they have chosen to live, others are racing pigeons who have become exhausted or have been injured or have just got lost usually on their first flight and their ‘owners’ no longer want them as they are no good for racing. They come to the sanctuary and usually they can live a happy and long life flying freely with the benefit of an aviary to come back to for food and shelter at anytime they wish, many live in the various barns at the sanctuary.
