Rehomed Animals

All of these dogs were due to die as there was not enough time to find them homes and they were in local pounds where more ‘unwanted’ dogs were coming in daily and there was no room for them. This is now the situation across the country and there needs to be much more awareness of the situation particularly for Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

As you can see most of these dogs are under a year old and yet there was no chance for them. These dogs have now all been homed but there are more and more each day needing places. The Alternative Animal Sanctuary has never re-homed animals as it has always taken in animals ‘with nowhere else to go’, there has had to be an exception made recently with dogs as many can find homes if only the time and space existed which is where the sanctuary has stepped in.

Sadly this is no longer the case until the sanctuary can be rebuilt after its devastating fire so more dogs are dying needlessly. If you can foster or permanently take on a dog please get in contact although bear in mind that the majority of dogs are Staffordshire Bull Terriers as the large charities are now closing their doors to them because there are so many needing somewhere to go.

Arnie

A picture of ArnieArnie has now found a permanent new home on a barge! He has settled in well as I knew he would as he is the most fantastic dog and his new owners know they are really lucky to have him.

Benny

A picture of BennyBenny is now in a lovely permanent home with another dog who is nice to him as he was prone to getting bullied by other dogs because of his submissive temperament.

Black Jack & Poker Dot

A picture of Black Jack & Poker DotThis Adorable pair have also been given a loving forever home!

Blue

A picture of BlueBlue fabulous temperament dumped at 8 years old and now in a fantastic home for the rest of his life.

Brandy

A picture of BrandyBrandy is another Death Row dog, she was in the pound for months as one of the kennel staff hid her from the council when they came to put her down each week! She has very bad hearing as she had ear mites left untreated for possibly years, she is an older dog obviously used most of her life for breeding. She has a lovely temperament and has gone to a new home with Benny another sanctuary dog.

Braxton

A picture of BraxtonBraxton, still a young puppy with an excellent temperament, now living with eight other dogs.

Bugsy

A picture of BugsyBugsy has now been given a loving forever home.

Buster

A picture of BusterBuster has already been rehomed twice! He is a gorgeous little dog with a lovely temperament who just wants to be cuddled, he has now found a lovely home with another dog for company and is very happy.

George

A picture of GeorgeGeorge is yet another Pound Dog with a day to go before he was killed by lethal injection like thousands across the country every year he went to a new home. He is a lovely dog, very handsome with a fantastic temperament, he was very underweight as council Kennels are very stressful and unpleasant. He now enjoys the good life including sleeping on the bed as every dog deserves!

Johnny

A picture of JohnnyJohnny, a lovely dog who came in with Orlando and had spent his three years of life chained and starved and now lives with three other dogs.

Lou

A picture of LouLuby Lou, clearly an older dog and a lovely temperament (although not with birds) now living the rest of her life in a loving home with two other dogs.

Mister

A picture of Mister

Mister is a male Border Terrier cross Cavalier King Charles.

He has gone to a nice rural home where he gets lots of walks which he loves and has the company of another dog which, as he is a particularly sociable dog, is very important.

Ollie

A picture of OllieOllie has now gone to a lovely home where he is fully appreciated for the really lovely dog he is. He is now enjoying life and although he has a bit of a sorrowful face he does actually like his walks and cuddles! which he is getting plenty of all to himself.

Orlando

A picture of OrlandoOrlando under a year old and said to be bad with other dogs, he had spent most of his life chained in a back garden with little food or water, very thin when he was rescued. Now he lives with ten other dogs!

Phil

A picture of PhilPhil also an older dog and not well socialised although he gets on with some dogs he lives in a home with no other dogs now.

Sissy

A picture of SissySissy also a Death Row dog is a young dog and who had probably been a novelty to someone until she was thrown out. She has a lovely temperament and has gone to a lovely home where she is settling in well.

Sophie

A picture of SophieSophie under a year old and a fabulous temperament lives with another dog.

Zeus

A picture of Zeus

UPDATE: Zeus has now found a nice home in the country with other dogs for company and is getting on very well.

Zeus found himself homeless just before Christmas through no fault of his own, he is a lovely little dog with an excellent temperament, he would prefer a home with someone at home most of the time and he likes other dog company.

Our Rehoming Policy

The Alternative Animal Sanctuary has always specialised in taking in animals who have nowhere else to go and for some reason could not be rehomed so they stay at the sanctuary for life. Recently there has been an increasing problem with unwanted dogs in pounds who are only given 7 days to be reclaimed or rehomed before they are put down. Most are Staffordshire Bull Terriers or Staffy crosses and no one will take them. The large charities won’t take them in any more as they cannot find them homes and the small charities are beyond their capacity. For this reason The Alternative Animal Sanctuary has begun to take in these dogs and find them permanent homes where possible. The Alternative Animal Sanctuary ONLY rehomes dogs and sometimes cats all the other animals are available for sponsorship but not rehoming. Also please bear in mind that the dogs come from pounds with no histories as they are strays so they can only be assessed while at The Sanctuary.
